It's that time of year again...

It is time for me to write the Bible study for our annual Refreshment in Refuge Women's January Retreat. I have written about the Proverbial Perfect Wife. I have written about The message of the cross really is "no stones".

This year, I thought God had provided the topic which was "Streams in the Desert", but our pastor chose that topic for some sermons and I don't wish to repeat. Give me a little help, if you would and tell me what topics sound good to you that go along with the theme Refreshment in Refuge.

I always loved the Samaritan woman at the well who threw her water jug down to go after the Living Water promised to her by Jesus himself. I think that one is rich in refreshment themes. Just a thought...

Oh, I love that story. She was a true missionary, too. That has some great possibilities.

I like the one where the woman touches the seam of Jesus' clothes, convinced she would be healed. The faith she had!!! I don't know if that would have potential for your bible study though:-)

God's Grace.

Gina, how about using John Chapter 15 for the text. Jesus spoke to the disciples for the last time, so it was likely high these words were those closest to His heart. He told them the secret of how to give new life to a languishing dead planet. In short, the answer was that they couldn’t give life. Only He could. We can be a branch, but “life” is in the vine.

Anyway, it’s just an idea.

Are you doing a book, or are you looking for biblical text?

If a book, I recommned The Sacred Romance, John Eldredge OR Keeping A Princess Heart - In A Not So Fairy Tale World, by Nicole Johnson.

Or maybe Every Woman's Battle, by Shannon Ethridge.

All books geared toward a woman's heart.

I'm writing this study for a one day retreat.

Gayla, since my budget is only about $300 I can't do a book. BUT, the Princess Heart is an idea!

All I can ask is that y'all pray with me on this because I truly thought it was "Streams in the Desert". Then I thought it was Psalms 46. I'll know it when God reveals it because I won't be able to sleep for thinking about it and I won't be able to stop writing.

We had a great retreat theme one year, studying the book of Esther. I think this confirms your Desert theme, and ties into the princess theme. If I remember correctly there was a flower blooming in the desert verse (I'll look it up and come back -- I can't remember the exact address) We focused on the concept of being a woman in the kingdom of God, we spent time discussing beauty and getting in touch with our "feminine side", and learning how to pamper ourselves again. Of course we spoke of purpose and calling as well. Long comment (sorry) hope it makes sense (thinking out loud here). Have a great retreat.

Okay, I found it. Isaiah 35

"1 The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad, the desert shall rejoice and blossom; like the crocus 2 it shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice with joy and singing. The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it, the majesty of Carmel and Sharon. They shall see the glory of the LORD, the majesty of our God. 3 Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees. 4 Say to those who are of a fearful heart, "Be strong, fear not! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God. He will come and save you." 5 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped; 6 then shall the lame man leap like a hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing for joy. For waters shall break forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert;"

"Therefore, behold, I will allure her, bring her into the wilderness and speak kindly to her". Hosea 2:14 also works in the theme.

This verse was included in the HeartQuest I went on in '04.

Yes, Kim, Isaiah 35. I love that passage!

Gayla I love that passage, too. There is just too much that applies so I must narrow it down and soon because time is growing short.

OK, so what did you decide? ;)

Do you hear the Jeapordy tune playing in the background? I'm going to sleep on it... yawn!
